Future plans for YP Water Security |
Wednesday, 21 January 2009
A Yorke Peninsula Water Infrastructure External Project Reference Group has been established as part of SA Water’s Long Term Plan to ensure that the Yorke Peninsula drinking water supply has sufficient capacity to enable growth and development over the next 30 years.
Steven Griffiths MP met with SA Water Chief Executive, Anne Howe, and SA Water representatives last year to discuss water infrastructure issues within the region and the drinking water requirements of Yorke Peninsula communities.
It was determined that a plan be developed to identify future water infrastructure options. SA Water’s Long Term Plan for Yorke Peninsula will focus on the Upper Paskeville, Warooka and Lower Paskeville water supply systems.
As part of developing the Plan the current status of the water resource will be examined and population projections and associated future demand will be investigated. Environmental and sustainability issues will also be considered when developing the Plan.
The Yorke Peninsula community now have the opportunity to have input to the planning process.
“I encourage you to have your say on what you would like considered in the Long Term Plan, Mr Griffiths said.
“Water infrastructure is vital for future growth and development of our region. It is now important that as part of SA Water’s engagement with local people and stakeholders on Yorke Peninsula that feedback is provided.
To oversee the development of the Long Term Plan, the Yorke Peninsula Water Infrastructure External Project Reference Group has been established to provide a link between the Plan and local stakeholders to work collaboratively towards ongoing water security for Yorke Peninsula.
