Land Tax increases hit South Australians hard |

The Rann Labor Government identifies in the 2008 budget that a 37.2 per cent increase in land tax revenue from private property will be received, up from $227 million to $306 million.
Treasurer Kevin Foley said the Government would not consider land tax reforms and is not currently reviewing threshold levels to which land tax charges are determined.
South Australia has the harshest land tax regime in the nation. It is already a drain on investment and economic activity, but now land tax bills are rising at a time when businesses and investors can least afford the extra charges.
On Tuesday, 11 November 2008, I made a grievance in Parliament on land tax. Frustratingly you will identify by reading the transcript that two Ministers constantly interjected during my speech which shows a complete disregard for South Australians paying land tax.
It appears that they and the State Government do not care about the impact land tax charges are having on people.
