Petition condemns Shared Services

A petition signed by more than 2100 people opposing the Rann Government’s Shared Services Reform has been presented to State Parliament.

Shadow Employment, Training and Further Education Minister Steven Griffiths said South Australians have spoken out against the Rann Government’s decision to strip 550 public sector jobs - around 246 full-time equivalent positions - from regional South Australia.

Under the flawed Shared Services proposal, jobs in payroll, accounts, human resources and information technology will be relocated to Adelaide.

Regional centres affected include Eyre Peninsula, Murray and Mallee, South East, Yorke Peninsula, Mid North, Far North, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island and the Barossa Valley.

“The Rann Government fails to understand that communities will be decimated by their heartless and irrational decision to rip jobs out of regional South Australia and relocate them to Adelaide,” Mr Griffiths said.

“It is time that Premier Rann and his Government comprehend that the State does not end at Gepps Cross.

“I want them to stop and take notice of the outcry from regional communities and realise that the flawed Shared Services reform is affecting real people.”

Already the Shared Services proposal is not running to plan with the Government recently announcing delays in the relocation process which will come at a further cost to taxpayers.
